Indonesian Culinary Experience by The Lake is the literal conversion to english, and you will not be disappointed. Our friend and his family Made Mace arranged for us to have dinner at Bale Udang Mang Engking in Denpasar, and was it and the experience was like being at a lakeside village in the middle of an urban area. There is a limited english menu and a much more substantial Bahasa menu special dishes. You feel like you are on the shores of a beautiful lake will be a unique experience that is a must do experience.

There are various areas available depending on your group makeup with unique and different themes, perfect for, couples and families. There is a fantastic children’s play area which is safe and prevents access to the water features.

As my Bahasa isn’t as strong as it could be Made explained the menu and ordered for the whole family and us as well. The family introduced me to an Avocado drink which is was so refreshing. We had whole fish, crispy chicken, sweet prawns, Nassi Goring and heaps of sides. They do have Bintang available but we decided to stay with non alcoholic drinks that night.

I would highly recommend Bale Udang for a night out, the atmosphere is amazing and so relaxing it is a treasure in amongst the busy streets of Denpasar and full of locals enjoying well cooked food and local delicacies. You may like me try a few different drinks and be a little bit more adventurous.

Bale Udang has the Denpasar restaurant as well as an Ubud restaurant, we only had enough time this trip to visit Denpasar but the Ubud one is there and has a different theme.
